Las ciencias sociales contextualizan el estudio de los movimientos sociales, considerando que aportan y fundamentan teorías y métodos sociales que permiten observar los procesosde configuración política, histórica y territorial de estos movimientos. En este contexto es apropiado recorrer el ámbito de las disciplinas, de la teoría social y del método para explicarlos elementos de contacto teórico y disciplinar de las ciencias sociales con los movimientos sociales, entendidos como objetos de estudio.

The social sciences contextualize the study of the social movements, considering that they provide and underlie theories and social methods that allow to observe the political,historical, and territorial configuration processes of such movements. In this context, it is appropriate to explore the scope of disciplines, the social theory, and the method in order to explain the theoretical contact elements and discipline of the social sciences along with the social movements, which are understood as objects of study.

Design and update of a classification system: the UCSD map of science.

Global maps of science can be used as a reference system to chart career trajectories, the location of emerging research frontiers, or the expertise profiles of institutes or nations. This paper details data preparation, analysis, and layout performed when designing and subsequently updating the UCSD map of science and classification system. The original classification and map use 7.2 million papers and their references from Elsevier's Scopus (about 15,000 source titles, 2001-2005) and Thomson Reuters' Web of Science (WoS) Science, Social Science, Arts & Humanities Citation Indexes (about 9,000 source titles, 2001-2004)-about 16,000 unique source titles. The updated map and classification adds six years (2005-2010) of WoS data and three years (2006-2008) from Scopus to the existing category structure-increasing the number of source titles to about 25,000. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a widely used map of science was updated. A comparison of the original 5-year and the new 10-year maps and classification system show (i) an increase in the total number of journals that can be mapped by 9,409 journals (social sciences had a 80% increase, humanities a 119% increase, medical (32%) and natural science (74%)), (ii) a simplification of the map by assigning all but five highly interdisciplinary journals to exactly one discipline, (iii) a more even distribution of journals over the 554 subdisciplines and 13 disciplines when calculating the coefficient of variation, and (iv) a better reflection of journal clusters when compared with paper-level citation data. When evaluating the map with a listing of desirable features for maps of science, the updated map is shown to have higher mapping accuracy, easier understandability as fewer journals are multiply classified, and higher usability for the generation of data overlays, among others.

Differences between cultures in emotional verbal and non-verbal reactions / Diferencias culturales en la expresión verbal y no verbal de las emociones

In this research the relationship between a series of cultural dimensions and the emotional verbal and non verbal reactions in three prototypical emotions (joy, anger and sadness) will be analyzed. Results show that Asians has a stronger normative system of emotional display rules than other groups. They also show lower gender differences. In order to predict lower emotional verbal and non verbal expression the most important cultural dimension is cultural masculinity. High power distance cultures foster emotional reactions which respect and legitimize status differences. This dimension also predicts a lower verbal expression of negative emotions. On the other hand, Uncertainty Avoidance is not generally associated to a high emotional expression. Finally. Communicating good feelings to other people is more typical of collectivistic and high power distance countries (AU)

La investigación que presentamos tiene como objeto analizar la relación entre las dimensiones culturales y la expresión verbal y no verbal de las emociones de alegría, cólera - enfado y tristeza. Los resultados confirman que las culturas asiáticas presentan un sistema de regulación emocional más fuerte o marcado que los otros grupos culturales estudiados. Además, estas sociedades asiáticas presentan menos diferencias de género. La dimensión cultural que mejor predice la baja expresividad verbal y la no expresión verbal emocional es la masculinidad cultural. La expresión emocional en las culturas con alta distancia de poder se caracteriza por el respeto y la deferencia. Asimismo, esta dimensión predice la baja expresión verbal de las emociones negativas. Por otra parte, la evitación de la incertidumbre no está asociada generalmente a la alta expresividad emocional. Finalmente, los datos corroborar que comunicar buenos sentimientos a otras personas es más típico de los países colectivistas y con alta distancia de poder (AU)

La clasificación múltiple de ítems y el análisis de escalogramas multidimensionales / The multiple-item classification and the multidimensional scalograms analysis

La clasificación múltiple de ítems (CENTER, Browin, Groat, 1985), se ofrece como una estrategia metodológica para el tratamiento de variable complejas recogidas en una investigación, particularmente en el campo de las ciencias sociales. Este escrito acopia además los aspectos principales del análisis de Escalograma Multidimensionales, ligado a la Clasificación Múltiple de Ítems, en tanto esta es una escala multidimensional para el tratamiento de variables. El artículo de Zvulum: “Multidimensional Scalograms Análisis: The Method and its Application” (1978), ha servido de sostén a muchos de los conceptos aquí presentados; de hecho algunos aportes de sus definiciones se han incluido sólo modificados por la traducción del inglés al español. El tratamiento del tema no es exhaustivo por las limitaciones de esta publicación, pero permite al lector introducirse en la temática con unos referentes conceptuales básicos.

The item multiple classification (Canter, Brown and Groat 1985), is offered as a methodological strategy to the treatise of complex variables collected in a research, especially in the applied sciences field. The main viewpoints of the multidimensional scalograms analysis are also included in this article; along with the item multiple classifications, since the latter is a multidimensional scale to the treatment of variables. The Zvulum’s article (1978) “Multidimensional Scalograms Analysis: the method and its application” has sustained most of the concepts presents here inasmuch as some excerpts of his definitions have been included in this paper, modified only by the English-to-Spanish translation. Due to the futures of this journal, the theme proposed has not been treated exhaustively; but it allows the reader to use some basic conceptual referents useful to get involved with the general theme.
